The hospital’s implementation training plan will begin with a 30hour orientation for clinicians a week before implementation. This session focuses on the benefits of having the dashboard in the OR. The morning of go-live SJM will offer a 45-minute orientation familiarizing the OR staff with the dashboard’s features. LiveData will also provide a team that will “hang out” in the OR for about a week to offer one-on-one instructions to the staff. LiveData hopes to have the system up and running by the end of 2007. LiveData’s OR-dashboard costs approximately $25,000 per operating room, but integration costs vary depending on the hospital, said Brzezinski. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and the St. Joseph Mercy Health System generally, are currently building an overarching IT system with Cerner that will be up in about 24 months, according to Whitehouse. ■ More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: MIcHIGaN 0807 l NPI Continued from page 15 PRESENTING THE NEW TOUGHBOOK 52. Jensen said there are already signs of claims processing showing negative impact from the NPI transition, and that have at times held up crossover claims for days. Jensen has received anecdotal reports from some providers who say they have double-checked their NPI numbers for accuracy, yet still their claims were denied.Suzanne Stewart, EDI coordinator at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, said there are a number of ways providers can reduce the risks to accounts receivable while transitioning to NPI. One is to validate ahead of time whether all trading partners are ready to send and receive using NPI. Stewart said Aurora has not quantified the impact of its NPI transition yet, but so far it has extended staff resources, including project managers, office staff and others who have been involved in testing and implementation of the NPI project. ■ B: 10.875 in T: 10.625 in More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: NPI 0807 S: 10 in e l Connect: PaNaSoNIc 0807 Intel, Intel logo, Intel Centrino, Intel Centrino logo, Intel Inside, Intel Inside logo and Pentium are trademarks or registered trademarks of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries in the United States and other countries.
