Dennis, PhD, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, CIO of Partnership HealthPlan of California, a Medicaid health plan serving 85,000 people in Northern California's Solano, Napa and Yolo counties. Dr. Dennis is a member of the HIMSS Ambulatory Information Systems Steering Committee and chair of the 2007 Ambulatory Community Healthcare Organizations (ACHO) Task Force. The ACHO Task Force provides a forum for providers of the nation's community health centers to meet, network and develop outreach efforts to explore IT topics of com- T mon interest, learn from best practices and provide a collective voice advocating for information technologies for the underserved and populations at risk. Due to Dr. Dennis' leadership, the ACHO Task Force has more than 60 HIMSS members representing 100 community health centers. Through Dr. Dennis' efforts, the task forces' first face-toface meeting was held in September 2006. Over 25 HIMSS members attended the meeting in Los Angeles; participation included members from both the East Coast and West Coast. In addition to the ACHO Task Force, Dr. Dennis has assisted to recruit new members to HIMSS and has led the development of Web pages dedicated to CHOs on the HIMSS Ambulatory Care Web site. The Web site includes several task force white papers and resource links to assist members with HIT adoption in the CHO setting. Industry leaders from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) participate on the ACHO Task Force, and partner with HIMSS on common Community Health Network information projects and information exchanges. Those projects and exchanges include HRSA's electronic health record requirements resource tool, and the HIMSS and NACHC's Public Policy Forums held in Washington, DC. Previously with HIMSS, Dr. Dennis chaired the Ambulatory Interoperability Showcase Committee, the Chapters Task Force, served on the Southern California Chapter Board and was the recipient of the “Spirit of HIMSS” Award in May 2005. ■ Nominations for the “Spirit of HIMSS” Award are submitted to the Membership Committee for consideration.
