Davies Awards of Excellence in the Organizational, Ambulatory and Public Health categories. Davies Awards recognize excellence in the implementation and use of health information technology for healthcare organizations, private practices and public health systems. Originally created by CPRI-HOST in 1994, the program is named in honor of Dr. Nicholas E. Davies, a practicing physician who believed the computer-based patient record was needed to improve patient care. Provision of EMRs by Payor Organizations In the past several months, a number of insurance companies, including Medical Mutual of Ohio, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida and Humana, have begun offering technology such as electronic medical records and personal health records to both health professionals and consumers. Nearly half of respondents believe payor companies can impact the use of information technology most if they provide incentives to physicians who use EMRs. Respondents were evenly split with respect to the benefits that would most likely be achieved with insurance company-provided/supported medical records. While nearly one-quarter of respondents selected patient safety, just over 20 percent selected verification of insurance eligibility and benefits. Improved billing/collections and improved quality of care were each selected by 18 percent of respondents.
