Davies Public Health Award of Excellence. The two public health recipients recognized were: • Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA), Cherokee, NC– Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority is the primary medical home and public health provider for an active user population of over 10,000 members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. CIHA is the governing body for the hospital as an independent component of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian Tribal government. HIMSS Calls for Award Nominations and Scholarship Applications Now Open Award Nominations-Call Closes Oct. 30 The Call for Nominations for the 2008 Awards and the 2008 Call for Scholarship Applications are now open; both will close next month. Nominations for awards, which recognize the special contributions of individuals, groups and organizations to the advancement of the healthcare profession as encompassed by the Society's mission, must be submitted online at www.himss.org/awards. Awards are presented in four categories: Industry, Service, Publications and Chapters; a complete list is available online. For more information, contact HIMSS Coordinator of Member Services Yvonne Horton at yhorton@himss.org. s Scholarship Applications-Call Closes Oct. 31 Bahrain World Trade Centre ONC-Coordinated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2008 to 2012 the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology released “The ONC-Coordinated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2008-2012.” Half of the survey respondents believe patient-focused goals (such as enabling the transformation to higher quality, more cost efficient, patient-focused healthcare through electronic information access and use by care providers and by patients and their designees) will have the most impact on achieving a goal of “nationwide implementation” of a technology infrastructure in both the public and private sectors. Another quarter of respondents believe patientfocused and population-focused goals are equally important. Only 14 percent of respondents believe neither of these goals will have an impact on the goals outlined in the strategic report.
