The respondents to this survey suggested that they are indeed experiencing staffing shortages. For both those working at vendor and provider organizations, respondents were most likely to indicate that they are experiencing a staffing shortage with regard to clinical applications such as CPOE, eMAR or PACS. Respondents were most likely to identify training people after hiring as the best solution for maintaining appropriate staffing resources within the organization; they were less likely to identify outsourcing and use of consultants or temporary help as a solution. Respondents also felt it important to offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. After thoroughly reviewing the entire set of bylaws and concluding modifications should be made to ensure the HIMSS governance structure is designed to best lead the Society, the work group presented their findings to the Board of Directors, who unanimously approved them for submission to the membership.
