That increase comes with a price. Coffin says hospitals pay $5 to $10 in service for every dollar they spend on hardware or software – an unforgiving amount at a time when hospitals are struggling to make ends meet. “We want to use partners to bring more value to our customers,” he says. Evidence of Dell’s efforts came on Sept. 18, when the company announced a new six-year agreement with the Seton Family of Hospitals in central Texas to provide IT service. Among Dell’s projects for Seton are virtualizing Seton’s data center, implementing an electronic health record system and improving digital imaging services. ‘We pride ourselves on being innovative in our approach to healthcare and having a partner like Dell with that same innovative approach from a technology perspective is invaluable,” said Charles J. Barnett, president and CEO of the Seton Family of Hospitals. “We see technology as a way to enhance our staff’s ability to deliver the best patient experience.” Dell has worked with Seton for close to two decades, helping to equip the new Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and the soon-to-be-operational Seton Medical Center Williamson. In addition, Dell has worked with the Nevada Cancer Institute, LSU Healthcare Network, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center and Solaris Health System.
