Covisint, a Detroit-based developer of health information exchange software and services, will create the platform for the Minnesota HIE Minnesota Health “this is truly a good BIpaRtISaN include Blue Information Exchange hEalthcaRE coNtINuum.” Cross Blue Shield (HIE), a not-for-profit of Minnesota, organization estab– Brett Furst Fairview Health lished by health plans and providers in partnership with san healthcare continuum,” said Services, HealthPartners, Medica, state officials. And this past June, Covisint announced plans to create a nationwide health information exchange using Microsoft’s HealthVault platform and AT&T’s Healthcare Community Online virtual private network (VPN) portal. Unlike the Tennessee project, which was coordinated by the state, the Minnesota project brings together a mix of public and private concerns, of which the state is just one stakeholder at the table. Furst said the company is talking with other state officials as well as physiciansponsored groups, and expects that half are interested in Tennessee’s program and the other half are watching Minnesota’s model. Minnesota Human Services Commissioner Cal Ludeman called the project “an important part of the state’s healthcare reform efforts.” “It will enhance patient safety, as well as quality improvement,” he said. “MN HIE will also allow providers to more effectively manage and coordinate healthcare services with each other.” ■ More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: MiNNeSota 1008 ● EvIEW Continued from page 51 to invest more time and energy in their management. With eView for Critical Care Manager and CareSuite 8.2, Nunez said, “we’ve taken that concept of intelligence and decision support to a new level.” The new releases, he said, are designed to take all the information gathered and apply decision-support and intelligencegathering tools, allowing clinicians to make informed decisions. “This latest version gives us new capabilities that really strengthen and set a new bar for the automation of documentation,” he added. Among the enhancements to CareSuite is a rules-based decision support system designed to enable clinicians to review patient parameters and identify and changes, structured clinical documentation that allows for the development of customized templates, and interoperability with microbiology results.
