Originally called eWebCoding, the company focused on providing applications for medical record access using the application service provider (ASP) model, before expanding to include revenue cycle management, record access and other document management services. “As ChartOne’s technology division, we learned a great deal about helping leading healthcare organizations achieve e-HIM excellence,” said Brian Cahill, eWebHealth’s CEO. “We have incorporated that experience as well as significant technology enhancements into the new platform.” Officials at HealthPort, meanwhile, say their new company – which collected $230 million in revenues last year – will reach out to a customer base of 8,000 healthcare providers with a combined platform of software and services. “As the adaptation of technology continues to gain momentum in the healthcare industry, this announcement strongly positions our company to better provide a full spectrum of solutions that can improve business fundamentals and enhance patient care,” said Patrick J. Haynes III, HealthPort’s chairman, in a press release announcing the deal. According to HealthPort officials, the combined company, to be based in Alpharetta and headed by HealthPort President and CEO Michael Labedz, will offer a product line that includes ROI technology, electronic document and medical records management, coding services, recovery audit contractor (RAC) services, RCM, cancer registry services and interim health management and consulting. “We are committed to leveraging these benefits for our existing customers and look forward to pursuing new opportunities as the healthcare information technology sector continues to grow and mature,” said Labedz. ■ More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: HealtH 1008 ATLANTA – The Eclipsys Corp. has announced plans to acquire Medinotes, a privately held physician software company based in Des Moines, Iowa. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Medinotes has practice management and electronic medical record software in more than 5,000 medical practices across the country, according to company executives. Atlanta-based Eclipsys, which has traditionally focused on providing information software, clinical content and professional services for hospitals and hospital-based health systems, views the Medinotes acquisition as opening the clinic and physician practice market for Eclipsys. “Studies have shown that over two-thirds of surveyed physicians in small to mid-sized practices do not yet have an EMR solution, and all of them plan to have one within the next two years,” said R. Andrew Eckert, R. Andrew Eckert Eclipsys’ president and CEO. “And almost a quarter of practices with an existing solution report they’re planning to replace it soon. So there’s a significant market opportunity here for both Eclipsys and our clients.” Eckert said the MediNotes Clinician suite would be rebranded. It “will complement our existing Sunrise Ambulatory Care outpatient clinic solution to meet the needs of physician practices, whether tightly aligned or loosely affiliated,” he said. ■ More at HealthcareITNews.com e Connect: acquire 1008 ● save on technology costs the same way you save on supplies VHA not only helps members lower supply costs but also provides access to world-class technology service suppliers — enabling organizations to reduce expenses while increasing the value of their purchased services spend Reduce your organization’s technology costs while improving patient and employee satisfaction by utilizing VHA’s comprehensive information technology and telecommunications portfolios.
