In many ways, Mr. Sanyal’s company is all about connectivity “There isn’t another conference that gives us as broad an attendee population as the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, where we can showcase the breadth and depth of our solutions,” he explains. “This conference is a great way to get our message across to a broad audience in a high impact, cost-effective way. We plan to take that opportunity to hold a lot of meetings, host a number of demonstrations and get a lot of face-time with a large number of customers in a compressed time frame.” Diamond-level Corporate Membership also helps to enhance the visibility and connectivity that HIMSS08 gives McKesson. “At this level of membership we get clear visibility and dialogue with similar organizations with similar commitments in this industry,” Mr. Sanyal notes. “We enjoy participating in discussions with leaders in this industry who are dedicated to transforming healthcare through the use of IT. That is a big deal to us. At a more tactical level, the event itself and how we participate is a huge awareness opportunity for McKesson. This forum enhances the position that we are a leader in healthcare IT.” Connectivity also is an exciting trend in the industry itself, he says, particularly when he looks at the rate of EHR adoption in physician practices. He says he is also excited to see the emerging potential for connectivity between healthcare stakeholders, including providers, patients, pharmacies and payors. ■ To learn more about the benefits of corporate membership, please visit www.himss.org or contact HIMSS Senior Director of Business Development Kelly Laidler at 312-915-9285. To qualify for consideration for the 2009 ACEC, candidates must have served as an Annual Conference reviewer for at least two years. New members to the ACEC are selected from the application pool by the HIMSS Board chair and, immediately upon their acceptance, will begin to help shape HIMSS09 educational programming. The new committee members, along with the committee’s current members and incoming chair, will meet with HIMSS staff to discuss new trends and directions in the industry. These discussions will directly affect the topic categories selected for HIMSS09. Individuals with questions about the ACEC and its role in planning for HIMSS09 can contact HIMSS Manager of Education Adam Bazer at abazer@himss.org. O ne would think it would be Annual Conference speakers who gain the most benefit from collaborating with Annual Conference reviewer coaches. Reviewers review and score online education proposals within a particular topic area and, upon proposals being accepted, team up with speakers to “coach” them through the presentation process, offering feedback and suggestions on how to develop their presentations. However, according to the reviewers, it is they who gain the most from this experience. Gail Kovacs, executive director of the Cleveland (Ohio) Health Network and a former Annual Conference Executive Committee chair, has continued her involvement in the process by serving as a reviewer coach, an experience Ms. Kovacs finds extremely rewarding. “Personal contact with a presenter who has been selected highlights the relevance of serving as a reviewer,” she says. “Every presenter is understandably eager to have their presentation be memorable and, consequently, any insight and advice I can provide is received in a most collaborative manner.” Vince Vitali, a longtime reviewer, president of the Greater Chicagoland Chapter of HIMSS and administrative director of Edward Hospital & Health Services in Naperville, Ill., views the role of a reviewer coach on a larger scale. “The role of the reviewer coach has an increased importance as HIMSS has become the primary source of HIT education and information,” he suggests. “I take into account the increasingly global nature of our business and need for quality and clarity in our educational sessions when I review sessions and coach speakers for the Annual Conference.” Alan Schechter, director of health informatics for Heritage Provider Network in Garden Grove, Calif., spoke at HIMSS07 and now sees the benefits and responsibilities attached to the role of reviewer coach. “As a reviewer and as a coach, one is doubly-charged with ensuring the selected presenter is in top form—from content development through the actual presentation—and ready to perform and enlighten the attendees,” he notes. “The Society places a very high responsibility on the shoulders of the reviewer coach to maintain the Society’s highest quality standards.” John http://www.HealthcareITNews.com http://www.forwardadvantage.com http://www.bradfordnetworks.com http://www.purchasecommander.com http://www.extremenetworks.com http://www.spconinc.com http://www.cognitive.com http://www.ergotron.com http://www.videntity.com http://www.himss.org http://www.himssconference.org/venturefair/index.aspx http://www.himssconference.org/venturefair/index.aspx http://www.himss.org/getcertified http://www.himss.org/events http://www.himssconference.org/education
