In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, private organizations and federal, state and local governments created ICERx.org, an “ in case of emergency prescription database” service that provides access to patient medication history. ICERx.org will help healthcare professionals assist in the coordination of care and safely renew prescriptions for evacuees, while avoiding harmful prescription errors and potential drug interactions. “When disaster strikes, we must be prepared to do all that we can to safeguard the health and welfare of our patients and the greater public,” said James J. James, MD, director of the American Medical Association Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response. The Web site provides evacuee outpatient prescription history, available patient clinical alerts and clinical pharmacology drug reference information to pre-registered, licensed healthcare providers. ■ More at HealthcareITnews.com e Connect: PreScrIPtIoN 1107 Fellowes Microban Split Design Keyboard This keyboard’s split-key, 3-D design conforms to your natural arm and hand positions to reduce tension in shoulders, arms and wrists.
