Healthcare IT News - November 2008 - (Page 30) 30 The HIMSS Insider I November 2008 www.himss.org Eisenberg’s leadership enhances QRPH Domain and HITSP efforts SEPTEMBER SPIRIT OF HIMSS AWARD Floyd P.Eisenberg,MD,MPH,the September 2008 recipient ofthe Spirit ofHIMSS Award,is a technical co-chair for the new IHE Quality, Research & Public Health (QRPH) Domain as well as co-chair for the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) Population Perspective Technical Committee.The QRPH is a new IHE Domain focused on the workflow cycle ofqueries for data and selection ofpopulation cohorts from within the clinical record.New to IHE,Dr. Eisenberg has done a terrific job bringing great ideas and leadership to help shape and grow this Floyd Eisenberg important area. The HITSP Population Perspective Technical Committee focuses on syndromic surveillance, early event detection and infectious disease reporting.For three years,the committee has strived to transmit essential ambulatory care and emergency department visit,utilization and lab result data from electronically-enabled healthcare delivery and public health systems in standardized and anonymized format to public health agencies with less than a one-day lag time.Over this past year,Dr.Eisenberg has volunteered literally thousands ofhours to these efforts.He has provided leadership to more than 165 individual members ofthe HITSP Technical Committees,who were responsible for documentation ofinteroperability specifications for health IT systems. In addition to his volunteer work,Dr. Eisenberg is the senior vice president ofhealth information technology at the National Quality Forum,as well as a practicing medical physician and researcher.His efforts are working to enable the healthcare industry to adopt EHRs that are secure,yet available,when and where they are needed to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare in our country,thus making Dr. Eisenberg truly worthy ofthe Spirit ofHIMSS Award.
