As a joint partner in the initiative, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded nearly $25 million, with incentive payments topping more than $7 million to 112 highest-performing hospitals in the third year of the initiative. Other programs, such as the one overseen by the Integrated Healthcare Association in California, have seen providers earning substantial rewards for providing quality care. Many respondents see P4P as a way to benefit all. “Finally, healthcare quality being measured by performance will increase quality, enhance outcomes and patient satisfaction,” said one respondent.
