Register for HIMSS09 and check back at www.himssconference.org for more information on what's happening on the show floor. s HIMSS08 Exhibition floor HIMSS09 Connects Professionals Through Niche Programming W ith 200-plus education sessions at the 2009 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, April 4-8, 2009, healthcare professionals of all disciplines and levels have boundless opportunities to expand their know-how in healthcare IT and management systems. To meet the needs of HIMSS' diverse and growing audiences, the Society will offer attendees even more opportunities to gather by profession through niche educational programming at HIMSS09. This year, HIMSS introduced new educational programs designed specifically for additional groups, including federal health sector professionals, management engineers process improvement professionals, senior executives, nurse informaticists and physicians. These five, three-session programs, titled Synergy Sessions, will feature interactive learning, discussion and best-practice sharing. Also new to HIMSS09, is a practicum designed for ambulatory-care professionals. This practicum of three back-to-back sessions will provide themed education and discussion for this audience. The Ambulatory-Care Practicum and Synergy Sessions will be offered on Sunday morning, April 5, prior to the opening keynote address; they will run concurrently with other education sessions and are offered to conference attendees at no additional charge. For those who work in the financial systems side of healthcare, HIMSS will host a pre-conference symposium on Saturday, April 4. This half-day program will explore the rise of electronic commerce in healthcare and demonstrate how information technology is used to streamline payment in the healthcare system. Professionals addressing healthcare consumerism at their organizations can attend numerous education sessions around personal health records, patient portals and kiosks, and Web 2.0 technologies applied in healthcare during conference.
