Despite the current financial downturn and market upheaval, the big deals have already been made and many in the pipeline are moving forward, he said. The outlook with future deals is not so clear, especially given that hospital executives are feeling financial pain. “There is more pressure to get more creative ways to gain efficiencies,” Hess said. Taylor Davis, manager of research operations for KLAS Enterprises noted that the systems are maturing, and many are going live with advanced functionalities, such as integrated data analytics for reporting capability. resource central A hospital physician uses Horizon Expert Orders, one of McKesson Provider Technologies’ many Horizon Clinicals products (Photo courtesy McKesson Provider Technologies). ➔ Datamonitor: Understanding the Industry Drivers for Electronic Health Records (Market Focus) products unite efficiency, safety clinicomp Essentris http://www.clinicomp.com/essentris/ Building on 25 years of ICU expertise, Essentris is the foundation for EMRs specializing in high acuity. Providers are looking for one common vendor for clinical integration, which data has shown success in patient safety. 2. monitoring: With the rise of non-reimbursable events by payers, particularly the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, solutions are emerging that help healthcare systems monitor and document such things as infections. 3. safety: Healthcare systems are investing in clinical systems to improve patient safety. CIOs of 200-plus bed hospitals have already implemented or are implementing systems. USER REVIEWS new 2007 contracts: core cis chosen (200+ beds) “We’ve made tremendous progress in implementing technology and tools that our clinicians actually use, because it helps them do their jobs more effectively. As we have increased the adoption rate of bar code medication scanning, we’ve dramatically cut our medication error rates while steadily improving our patient, employee and physician satisfaction scores. And our patient safety initiatives haven’t stopped there.” Lesson learned: “The process change aspect of any technology implementation is not to be underestimated. But technology ultimately needs to support meaningful clinical practice change to drive the quality, safety and financial improvements that are the reasons for investing in clinical IT to begin with. We were able to leverage McKesson’s experience with its customer base to drive clinical transformation utilizing the Horizon Clinicals suite of products.” Ellen Swoger, chief information officer, Methodist Medical Center of Illinois “Essentris is highly configurable and we were easily able to adapt the notes and flowsheets to meet the requirements of each specialty.” Lesson learned: “One of our biggest challenges during our implementation was dealing with the users who were not comfortable using computers.” Ellen Pollack, director of Clinical Systems, UCLA Healthcare rEvIEws see page 42 SOURCE: IDC DIgItal UnIvERSE StUDy, SpOnSORED by EMC (apRIl 2007) http://www.HealthcareITNews.com http://www.healthcareitnews.com/story.cms?id=10517 http://www.HealthcareITNews.com http://www.clinicomp.com/essentris/ http://epicsystems.com/software-clinical.php http://www.mckesson.com/en_us/McKesson.com/For%2BHealthcare%2BProviders/Hospitals/Hospitals.html http://www.clinicomp.com http://www.gehealthcare.com/usen/hit/products/centricity_enterprise/enterprise_clinical.html http://eclipsys.com/solutions/clinical_solutions.asp http://www.mckesson.com http://www.mckesson.com http://www.medsphere.org
