The vehicle type with the highest estimated vehicle operating costs for 2008 are SUVs (23.5 cents per mile), followed by minivans (19.4 cents) and large sedans (19.1 cents). The vehicle types with the lowest operating costs are small sedans (13.9 cents) and medium sedans (17.9 cents). Vehicle operating costs are primarily driven by gasoline prices, which are projected to range from 9.4 to 17.1 cents per mile for the different vehicle types. Maintenance costs are the next largest vehicle operating expense, ranging from 4.0 to 5.5 cents per mile.
