PRESiDENT’S MESSAGE With You, For You, All About You Leading the way at Leadership Days • Producing another Virtual eForum in the fall with presentations, live chats and a virtual vendor trade show. • AAIA SmartBrief grew its opt-ins to 3,647, with a 45 percent subscription growth in 2009. New exclusive features include: AAIA/BB&T Automotive Aftermarket Intelligence Report; NPD Aftermarket Perspectives; IMR, Inc. Industry Insight; Telematics Trendline by Derek Kaufman; and BB&T Quarterly Aftermarket M&A Update. • Completed the initial collection/ analysis phases of the green initiative survey, and the process of converting the information into a final report and the aftermarket industry’s “green” story is underway. • Introduced www.connect.aftermarket.org, a secure, online community with exclusive member access to directories, document libraries, discussions, blogs and more. • As of Leadership Days, AAPEX had 116 more exhibitors than the same time last year (including 64 new exhibitors), and 529 more booths sold, both 15 percent increases. • AWDA created a Warehousing Essentials Pavilion at AAPEX. From five exhibitors in 2009, we have already signed up 12 companies, several being first-time exhibitors. • In 2009, 362 AAPEX visitors attended six scheduled demonstrations at the new Shop of Tomorrow. • The Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (S. 3181) was introduced in the Senate on March 25 by Senators Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. and Sam Brownback, R-Kan. • Became home of the industry best practice for EDI, Super Spec, which results in a 97 percent reduction in time required to set up an e-commerce connection between suppliers and buyers. • Established the 365 Club to identify AAIA members that support AAPAC by giving $1 per day or $365 per year in support of AAPAC. • AIA launched two online, openbook import specialist certification tests, honoring counterpersons with the knowledge and skills to provide the right parts, and sell more parts for imports. • The Car Care Council made its debut on iTunes, launching a new series of Car Care Minute podcasts. • Several hundred community car care events were hosted around the country during NCCM (April 2010). AAIA remains committed to delivering leadership, connection and empowerment to our members. At our recent Leadership Days in Hollywood, Fla., I had the pleasure of sharing with nearly 350 of AAIA’s volunteer leaders, our state of the association address. Following are highlights: • Launched the Automotive Aftermarket Health Insurance Program (AAHIP), a network of state and regional aftermarket trade associations simplifying members’ insurance decisions. • Created the online Directory of Resources for Industry Valued Education (DRIVE), a one-stop resource to enable the industry to locate available training. • Just released the 2011 Digital Aftermarket Factbook, the 20th edition of our most popular market research publication.
