The market share of paint and body repair shops, dealer-operated body shops and automotive glass repair shops has remained relatively consistent, with little variation in terms of absolute market share per year. Over this time period, paint and body repair shops made up between 53 percent and 57 percent of the market. Key drivers Contribute to Collision Market Growth hood of collisions. A number of factors influence the collision repair industry including vehicle registrations, miles traveled, roadway congestion, seasonal driving patterns and weather conditions. Marking the first time in more than two decades, the number of annual miles driven declined in 2007 to 2.99 trillion miles, a decrease of 0.4 percent from 2006. The ratio of registered vehicles to length of U.S. roads, has continued to display steady growth. Since 1991, the ratio of light vehicle registrations to overall length of U.S. roads increased from 45 vehicles for each mile of road to a projected 63 vehicles in 2008 representing an increase of 40 percent.
