All Photos: Elftherios Kostans AHEPA Honors Excellence in First of Four Regional Galas honorees inspire and Set examples to emulate by executive director basil n. mossaidis T he first of four ahepa national regional Salute banquets to be held in 2009 – 2010 occurred Sat., Nov. 21, 2009, at Terrace on the Park, Flushing, N.Y. Traditionally, AHEPA hosts a Biennial Salute Banquet in Washington, DC every two years. However this administrative year, the Supreme Lodge decided to embark on a new and fresh approach by taking this historically gala affair “on the road” to four geographically dispersed communities. “We have a few objectives we’ve set out to accomplish by hosting four regional banquets throughout the country,” said Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas. “We aspire to invigorate the grassroots of the American Hellenic community. We aim to provide the proper national stage to recognize excellence performed in our hometowns and local communities. Finally, given the current economic conditions endured by the American people, we wanted to ease the financial burden of travel by providing individuals with the opportunity to attend a nationally-hosted banquet at a venue closer in proximity.” He continued, “New York City, specifically Queens, is the epicenter of Greek America.
