HousIng Ahepans Dedicate First Update: Projects Under Elderly Apartment Construction Making Building in Nashua, N.H. Progress NASHUA, N.H.–The Ahepans of Chapter 35, Nashua, N.H. proudly dedicated their 38-unit apartment building for the low-income elderly. The HUD 202 project was awarded in the FY2005 program. It is the first N.H. property of ANHC’s 88 projects to date. The property is affectionately known as AHEPA Manor. Board President Nicholas Kallan opened the dedication ceremonies by welcoming the guests and residents. Following the invocation by Rev. Tom Chininis, St. Philip Church, several speakers were introduced. Among them were Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau; Taylor Caswell, HUD regional director; and representatives of U.S. Senators Gregg and Sununu. The ceremonial ribbon cutting was performed by Mayor Lozeau, Pres. Kallan, John T. Pappas, member; and Basil Papanicolaou, board treasurer. Rev. Chininis and former St. Philip pastor Rev. Soterios Alexopoulos blessed the building and gave the benediction to conclude the ceremonies. The Board hosted a sumptuous luncheon for the guests and residents, which included many Greek delicacies. Of the 88 projects in the ANHC family, 76 are currently up and running. The remaining are in various stages of completion. Due for completion this year are Columbia, S.C. AHEPA 284-III in June; Mobile AHEPA 301-XI and St. Louis AHEPA 53-III are scheduled to complete in September time frame; and Bloomington, Minn. Daughters 35-II is expected to complete in October. Projects awarded in the FY2007 HUD program include Columbia, S.C. AHEPA 284-IV; Tallmadge, Ohio AHEPA 63; and New Orleans AHEPA 133 are in various stages with no set date. A63 has been delayed due to site approval problems. A133 has had a myriad of problems with city problems, fees required, changes in architectural design, and HUD paperwork required. It is anticipated additional funding will be required. Hartford, Conn. AHEPA 58-II has been long-delayed by additional site preparation and contractor problems. A firm occupancy and completion date cannot be forecast at this time. Some good news to relate as well. San Bernardino, Cal. AHEPA 302 and Merrillville, Ind. AHEPA 78-VI will be dedicated in March. The A302 property is the first one for ANHC on the West Coast. Two projects just awarded in the FY2008 HUD program are in the very early stages of paperwork details necessary. They are New London, Conn. AHEPA 250-V, to be sited in Niantic, Conn. and Mobile AHEPA 301-XII, to be built in Daphne, Ala. Chapters attempting to prepare an application for the FY2009 HUD program include Asheville, Charlotte, and Raleigh in N. C.; Duluth and Bloomington, their third, in Minnesota; Melbourne and Daytona Beach, their second, in Florida and Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
