Stop-and-go traffic, short commutes, heavier loads (cargo or passengers) and driving the car before it’s had a chance to warm up are what the automotive industry refers to as “severe driving.” Today, being a severe driver is more the rule than the exception. Other severe driving factors include driving in extremely hot or cold weather, on rough or mountainous roads, in dusty or salty environments, or towing a trailer. For these reasons, you should perform an oil filter change every 3,000 miles (or as specified by the car manufacturer), and properly maintain and repair your car as outlined in this guide. If you do, your car will perform safely and dependably for years to come.
