Messaging News - December 2008 - (Page 6) EDITOR’S NOTE It Only Gets Better From Here While finishing the final 2008 issue of Messaging News, my thoughts turn to the year in review. As always, it has been an interesting one in the messaging space, yet uniquely spiced with economic news and recession talk. Our team is very grateful to our readers, advertisers and industry experts for helping Messaging News not only survive these unprecedented days, but also to be growing and prospering. Your support of our efforts is truly appreciated. We are excited and energized as we anticipate 2009, which will bring a re-design for our Web site, online newsletters, and magazine. Our goal is to continuously improve ourselves, so we can offer you a trustworthy source of messaging news, trends and insights. Speaking of trends, our cover story, Pinching Pennies with SaaS, is the first in a three-part series that examines SaaS, cloud computing and virtualization. All these terms are getting tossed about lately, and seem to be used almost interchangeably. In this first part, we explore SaaS. In the next issue of the magazine we will look at cloud computing and virtualization. (By the way, last month we added another online newsletter, this one dedicated to the topic of virtualization. If you missed out, you can find copies archived on our Web site at www.messagingnews.com.) If you are a Microsoft SharePoint user, be sure to read A New SharePoint Resource. Michael Sampson has written a book for business teams, designed to help them make the most of what is available in SharePoint and maximize the SharePoint investment. In Responsible Email Marketing: Managing Complaints, we look at ways in which good marketing can (and frequently does) go bad. There is so much more to email marketing than just pushing the send button. Today’s consumers are quick to embrace technology innovations, especially by those aged 18 to 27, known as Gen Y. As this group integrates and moves up the management chain within the enterprise, are we ready for the different media types, and technology preferences that will come with them, sanctioned or not? Here we inspect this group’s preferences in When Gen Y Joins the Workforce. Lastly, in Reducing Liability Through Effective Email Policy Management we take a look at how best to create email policies for your organization and why it is important. As always, we enjoy hearing from you. Send us your thoughts for stories.
