afaith-infused Messiah College athletics programs celebrate remarkable milestones Men’s soccer team’s three-peat national championship kicks off a record-setting year Messiah College’s athletics programs achieved an extraordinary array of accomplishments during the 2006–2007 academic year, with student-athletes recognized for sportsmanship, scholarship, character, and athletic excellence. In the fall, Messiah College’s men’s soccer team won their third straight national championship, which was their fifth in seven years. The women’s soccer team concluded the season as semifinalists in their fourth Final Four appearance in five years. Field hockey also posted an outstanding fall season, finishing as national runner-up for the third time since 2001. The women’s cross country team won the conference championship in the fall, their second straight title. The cumulative national standings of these teams vaulted Messiah College to a third-place ranking in the fall NCAA Division III Sports Academy Director’s Cup Standings, which recognizes the top overall athletics programs in the country based on a school’s achievements in all sports at the national level. Messiah athletes’ drive for excellence continued in the winter season, with the women’s basketball team winning the regular-season and conference-playoff championships, and the men winning the regularseason title. Both teams again advanced to the NCAA tournament. Individual achievements accumulated for Messiah’s student-athletes when three wrestlers were named Scholar All-Americans, propelling the College to second place on the list of top 20 NCAA Division III Scholar teams.
