Messiah College President's Report 2007 - (Page 23) sustaining an education of distinction Those familiar with Messiah College know that something special is transpiring here. While it is not uncommon for a college to excel in one or two areas, in the past few years Messiah has achieved recognition on many fronts: the wide variety of notable academic achievements, the outstanding record of the accounting and nursing programs, the incredible success of several athletic teams that includes winning national championships, the highly praised music program, and recognition for ranking ninth in the nation for sending students abroad. The list goes on, but the picture is clear: Messiah College is a vibrant and dynamic place. Even more exciting is the strong evidence that the full impact of Messiah College is just beginning to be realized. The administration, faculty, trustees, alumni, and students are aligned as never before to propel Messiah College to even higher levels of recognition as a college of distinction that nurtures and prepares servant leaders. As a trustee, I am privileged to be involved in deliberations about the future of Messiah College. From that perspective, it is rewarding to observe administrators’, educators’, and staff members’ unwavering focus on providing the most distinctive educational opportunity possible for every student, while retaining the uniqueness of the College’s faith-based foundation. The exceptional opportunities provided by the Philadelphia Campus, the vast selection of study abroad programs, and the offerings of an applied science curriculum within a liberal arts institution demonstrate the attentiveness the College leaders give to meeting the needs of today’s college student. While the College stands on a strong foundation, we must always look ahead to opportunities in the future. All of us are aware of organizations that have become complacent and then plateaued. A business, a church, a youth group that once were growing, somehow lost energy. That must not happen at our great institution. In the report that follows, you will read of the contributions of donors, friends, alumni, faculty, and students. We are thankful for this wonderful support of time, talent, and financial resources. The Messiah community’s generosity makes it possible for the College to continue to successfully pursue its mission. These gifts enable the College to provide the scholarships, mission opportunities, programs, and facilities that enrich the lives of students and those they serve — now and into the future. As the College is poised to enter its second century, we look forward to more partners joining us with donations large and small to assure that the growth and vitality of Messiah continues. — Linden K.
