The academic program includes more than 60 majors and more than 50 minors. Specialized programs include extensive off-campus study, individualized majors, independent study, servicelearning, internships, and a flourishing Honors Program. Students are prepared to succeed in their careers, ministries, and graduate schools. Recent students and alumni include a Rhodes Scholar, a Truman Scholar, and Fulbright scholars from the School of the Humanities. History Originally named the Messiah Bible School and Missionary Training Home, Messiah College was founded in 1909 by the Brethren in Christ Church. In 1972, ownership by the Church was replaced by a covenantal relationship in which legal responsibility for the College was placed with a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees. Distinctions • Messiah offers a high-quality, private, coed, undergraduate education that effectively integrates intellect, character, and faith for 2,854 students in a residential setting. • 99 percent of past-year graduates surveyed are employed full time, attending graduate school, or in voluntary service within six months after graduation. • Named by U.S. News & World Report as a top 5 “Best College” for comprehensive bachelor’s colleges in the North. Campus Locations Main Campus — Scenic 485-acre suburban campus located in Grantham, Pa., 12 miles southwest of the state capital, Harrisburg — providing easy access to urban centers such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.
