Nearly 400 students served on regular local community service outreach teams throughout the year, and 58 students participated in international service during the school year and the summer recess. Altogether, our students contributed over 60,000 hours of service during the 2006–2007 academic year. Where do they come from? Our students represent 40 states, the District of Columbia, and 25 countries. What does the profile of our first-year students tell us? They are bright. SAT scores are just one measure of academic ability. In 2006–07, the middle 50 percent of Messiah College first-year students achieved SAT scores between 1050 and 1260. Among 2006–2007 first-year students, 34 percent graduated in the top 10 percent of their class and 66 percent graduated in the top 25 percent. There are 24 valedictorians and 16 salutatorians. How many participate in intercollegiate sports? Many students enhance their college experience through sports. Last year, 348 students participated in Messiah’s athletics programs, with 39 playing two or more sports. What denominations do they represent? Students’ grade-point averages tell one important part of their educational story. Our students posted a strong 3.24 grade point average for the 2006–2007 academic year. They are leaders. The Class of 2011 includes students who held high school leadership positions in athletics, theatre, marching band, church youth groups; and participated in community, national, and international service and missions. How many are involved in service? By the time they graduate, 99 percent of our students have been involved in volunteering as part of the first-year “Into the Streets” service project through the Agapé Center for Service and Learning.
