2007 – 2008 Messiah College President's Report - (Page 14) Fueled faith Falcon athletic teams culminate another year with more top honors The Messiah College Falcons concluded another stellar sports season with accolades both on and off the eld. Amy Reed ’08, who was named Division III National Field Athlete of the Year in Outdoor Track and Field, set a new national record on her way to winning the Division III national championship for the heptathlon. Also a member of the women’s basketball team, Reed and her teammates compiled a 107–13 record over the past four years and, this year, competed for the national championship, nishing as runners-up. The women’s basketball team, in fact, not only made a statement on the court, but off the court as well. Cindy and Gary Matthews, of Holland, Mich., who hosted the women’s basketball team for the NCAA Division III Final Four tournament, considered it an “honor” and a “great privilege” to welcome the team, remarking that “the women modeled Jesus’ life of commitment and sacri ce during the games, and graciously respected the winning team when the games were over.” The recognition continued as men’s soccer star Kai Kasiguran ’08 was named Division III Player of the Year, the third Messiah College player to earn this honor. As a team, men’s soccer nished third in their bid for another national championship, while the women’s team nished as national runners-up. The eld hockey team was one of eight falcon sports programs to win a conference championship this year, and for her work, eld hockey head coach Jan Trapp was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame. The womenʼs basketball team, in fact, not only made a statement on the court, but off the court as well.
