IDENTITY AND MISSION FACULTY PROFILE MessiahCollege at a glance 2007–2008 Messiah College is a nationally ranked Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences. The College is committed to an embracing evangelical spirit rooted in the Anabaptist, Pietist, and Wesleyan traditions of the Christian Church. Our mission is to educate men and women toward maturity of intellect, character, and Christian faith in preparation for lives of service, leadership, and reconciliation in church and society. HISTORY Messiah College selects its educators for their Christian commitment as well as their proven teaching ability. They hold degrees from more than 150 graduate schools in ve countries — including prestigious institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and the University of Pennsylvania. ATHLETICS 30 • Messiah offers a high-quality, private, coed, undergraduate education that effectively integrates intellect, character, and faith for 2,837 students in a residential setting. • Ninety-eight percent of past-year graduates responding to a survey are employed full time, attending graduate school, or in voluntary service within six months after graduation. • Named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top ten “Best Colleges” for baccalaureate institutions colleges in the North. • Ranked ninth in the nation among baccalaureate schools for number of students studying abroad, according to annual Open Doors survey reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Last year 429 students earned academic credit studying abroad in more than 30 different countries. • Within the past 10 years, Messiah College has produced graduates who have distinguished themselves as Rhodes, Fulbright, Carnegie, and Truman Scholars. Intercollegiate athletics at Messiah College sets standards for excellence in NCAA Division III college athletic programs. Characterized by outstanding facilities and competitive scheduling, the program has emerged as a highly respected entity among its peer institutions.
