JANUARY Mike True, director of the Internship Center, is featured in an article in The New York Times (top right). Students, faculty, and staff commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. by embarking on an educational tour of Harrisburg, listening to a panel of community leaders discuss urban issues, and serving at a city church and sanctuary for homeless women and children. Residents of Messiah College Philadelphia Campus (MCPC) participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service as part of their MCPC orientation activities (top left). Coach Jan Trapp is inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame (bottom left). Kai Kasiguran ’08, reigning NCAA Division III men’s soccer Player of the Year and four-time All American, is drafted in the rst round of the supplemental draft by the Chicago Fire (bottom right). FEBRUARY Department of Theatre presents the musical Godspell. The Center for Public Humanities hosts its annual spring symposium, with the theme “Eyes Wide Open: Engaging Technology with our Humanity.” Stephen Prothero presents a lecture at the Educational Issues Forum on the thesis of his latest book, Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know — and Doesn’t (top). Luke Powery gives a chapel address on “The Spirit(uals) of Resistance,” examining the extraordinary legacy of slave songs and spirituals. Art exhibit opens, featuring the work of Donna M. McCullough (bottom). MARCH Leon Bates and Borealis Wind Quintet perform a spring Cultural Series concert. Senior art majors exhibit work throughout Climenhaga Fine Arts Center (top). More than 130 students travel to 8 states and 4 countries to serve on spring break service projects. Sponsored by the Ernest L. APRIL Messiah hosts The Compassion Forum, featuring presidential candidates (top). Department of Theatre presents Blithe Spirit. Messiah hosts a reception for students accepted to grad school. Concert Choir performs with the Harrisburg Symphony (bottom). The School of Math, Engineering, and Business and the School of Health and Natural Sciences host Scholarship Days. The Messiah College Wind Ensemble and Chamber Singers were invited to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association conference in Hershey, where music department chair William Stowman served as conductor for the Pennsylvania All-State Concert Band. MAY/JUNE The juried StudentWork art show opens, featuring the work of studio art students completed during the school year. Department of Theatre presents Riders to the Sea. Pulitzer Prize–winning writer Sonia Nazario gives address at Commencement 2008. Messiah’s admissions team promotes the rst-ever recycling campaign at Creation ’08, resulting in the collection of over 60,000 bottles and cans for recycling (top).
