Learjet NXT Model to be Unveiled this Week A model of Learjet’s new NXT concept business jet will be shown in public for the first time here at Dubai. Bombardier chose Dubai for the unveiling as the aircraft’s large, eight-passenger cabin and 3,000 nmi. range will suit it ideally to mission requirements in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Indeed, some of the 65 letters of intent for the new plane are believed to be from Middle East customers. The NXT is intended to have true U.S. transcontinental range, giving full range with full passengers at a high speed cruise of M 0.86, allowing for typical Boeing winds and NBAA IFR reserves. Bombardier says the cabin is the biggest in its class of midsize jets with a Bombardier will face largecabin competition from Brazil’s Embraer,which is promoting its new MidSize and MidLight jets for Middle East regional capabilities (left). stand-up height of 71 in., and a width at the centerline of 73 in. The aircraft will use new turbofan engines in the 10,000-poundsthrust class. Other Contenders But the Learjet NXT will face some stiff competition. Embraer in September unveiled a pair of concept nine-passenger MidSize and eightpassenger MidLight jets with stand-up, six-foot cabins. The MidSize jet will have a range of 2,800 nmi with eight passengers at a cruise speed of Mach 0.80. Engines will be in the 6,000-8,000 pounds thrust range. Cessna also is preparing to launch its Citation Large Cabin Concept, which is externally similar to the Citation X, but with upturned wingtips and a stand-up, flat-floor cabin 6 feet, 1 inch high, for nine passengers. It is optimized for maximum cruising speed of M0.86 (488 kts) at up to its 45,000-foot certified ceiling and will offer an NBAA IFR range of 4,000 nmi. at M 0.80. Payload with full fuel will be 1,950 pounds.
