Phoenix Buyers Can Jump the Q Fed up of waiting years for your roomy long range aircraft to arrive? Well, a reasonably priced shortcut is launched here today (Tuesday) by converting Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets into luxurious 12- to 19-seaters at a cost of around $17.9 million each. The package includes a comprehensive maintenance upgrade, including an engine shop visit (if required), and state-ofthe-art in-flight entertainment system. Avionics will be added, as well as an additional fuel tank to allow the CRJ-Phoenix to fly up to 3,000 nmi. The idea comes from Dubaibased Project Phoenix, which has partnered with Aerospace Concepts of Montreal to manage sourcing, maintenance and completion phases, CRJ200-based Phoenix business jet. Project Phoenix president Mike Cappuccitti (left) with Action’s Mike Creed. while Action Aviation will handle sales and marketing. (UK-based Action Aviation, the firm that’s buying Sino Swearingen, also offers a revamped luxury model of the Dornier 328Jet. Action is relocating to Dubai.) Project Phoenix president Mike Cappuccitti says that booking your order now will mean a roll-out in September/October next year. Two customers are to sign LOIs here today with two more waiting in the wings, Cappuccitti says. Another 30 expressions of interest have also been received from the Middle East, India and China. He says that CRJ200s have plenty of life left in them, with some coming onto the market with as little as 10,000 to 20,000 hours. The CRJ200 is designed for 80,000 flight hours or 80,000 flight cycles. Flying Colours of Peterborough, Ontario will be completing the aircraft interiors under the auspices of Aerospace Concepts (responsible for designing the interiors of 60 Global Express jets so far). Cappuccitti says he is talking with three other completion centers to meet expected demand and keep customer waiting times down. He plans to complete four aircraft in the first twelve months and to have another four to six in process. “I believe the market can handle everything we can produce,” he said. —Mike Vines 10 November 13, 2007 www.aviationweek.com/shownews http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
