EBACE Show News - May 20, 2008 - (Page 42) NEW AIRCRAFT EBACE 2008 Airbus and Boeing Prepare Widebody Bizjets Airbus A340, A350XWB and A380 While best known for its A320-series derivatives, the Elite, ACJ and Prestige, Airbus offers corporate/VIP/VVIP versions of its entire range. Recent sales successes include the first VIP A350XWB, to C Jet Limited of Hong Kong for use by chairman Tony Chan. “With the range to go almost anywhere in the world, plus the widest and most spacious cabin of any Airbus widebody apart from the A380, the A350XWB Prestige is going to be a tremendous aircraft for us,” Chan says. An unnamed Asian customer also has placed a firm order for an Airbus A350 XWB Prestige. BAA Jet Management of Hong Kong has been chosen to manage the airplane. The top-of-range A380 has also attracted VVIP customers, with His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Abdulaziz Alsaud, chairman of Kingdom Holdings ordering the first of what has been dubbed a “Flying Palace.” Airbus is at Booth 7442 at EBACE. At least one A380 has been sold as a ‘Flying Palace.’ Mach 0.86. A SkyLoft area, above the main cabin between the upper deck and tail, gives owners the opportunity to create personal suites, private offices and recreational spaces. Announced customers for the VIP 787 include Hong Kongbased real estate tycoon Joseph Lau and Swiss-based PrivatAir, which has ordered two is scheduled for delivery to launch customer Aamer Abdul Jalil Al Fahim in Abu Dhabi, UAE later this year. Embraer holds orders for 20 Lineage 1000s. Other announced customers include Al Jaber Aviation (five), Falcon Aviation Services (one) and Grupo OmniLife of Mexico (one). Embraer Phenom 100 The fourth Phenom 100 made its first flight on March 26, from Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto plant. The event marked the beginning of the Phenom 100’s maturity campaign that will The 787 Dreamliner is available in two VVIP versions. Boeing 747-8 and 787 While the term “Boeing Business Jet” usually calls to mind the Seattle airframer’s 737-derived corporate flagships, it also offers BBJ versions of its top-of-range 787 and 747-8. Two VIP/VVIP versions of the Dreamliner are available: the 787-8 offers 2,404 sq ft of cabin space and has a 9,590-nmi range, while the 2,762 sq ft cabin 787-9 will fly 9,950 nmi, enabling owners of these airplanes to fly anywhere in the world nonstop while carrying up to 75 passengers, says Boeing. The 4,786 sq ft cabin of the VIP 747-8 Intercontinental will carry 100 passengers and fly them up to 9,260 nmi while cruising at 42 with an option on a third. The BBJ version of the 787-8 sells for about $162 million. Boeing Business Jets is at Booth 7479 and in the static park here. Embraer Lineage Announced here at EBACE in 2006, Embraer’s top-of-range Lineage 1000 is a corporate/VIP version of the E-190 twinjet airliner. Additional fuel tanks in the lower deck cargo space give it a range of some 4,200 nmi, while the cabin, divided into five sections, provides accommodation for up to 29 passengers. The first Lineage 1000 was flown on October 26, 2007, and after outfitting simulate, via an intensive flight schedule, real operating conditions and exposure to extreme hot and cold weather. “The fourth aircraft will play a significant role in the program,” said Luís Carlos Affonso, evp for Executive Jets. “The maturity campaign is intended to confirm the jet’s quality and high-utilization characteristics.” Flight tests on the first three Phenom 100s have included flutter and stall, flight quality, performance and the automatic flight control system. Certification is expected in the second half of 2008. The first customer Phenom 100 is now in preassembly. B/CA equipped price is $3.287 million. Embraer Phenom 300 The first Embraer Phenom 300 light jet rolled out of the company’s Gavião Peixoto plant in São Paulo, April 12, and made its maiden flight on April 29.
