EBACE Show News - May 21, 2008 - (Page 22) EBACE 2008 Honeywell Gets Terrain Update Approval Familiar Face Plans to Build First Truly Global Brokerage: Worldwide Reach & Knowledge The whirlwind growth of business aviation is encompassing companies and entrepreneurs around the world who have never bought or sold an airplane before—and neither are easy tasks, says Jahid Fazal Karim, who until recently was svp for worldwide sales at Bombardier Business Aircraft. He left Bombardier earlier this year to become an entrepreneur. Now his FK Partners Ltd. acts as an aircraft acquisition and management consultant, helping buyers and sellers navigate through myriad Jahid Fazal Karim. processes from completions to operations to technical compliance and maintenance. And oh yes, he will help find the airplane, too, or sell it. “But trading is not the core business. We are offering global reach and expertise,” he told Show News. “People who buy airplanes are running a company, and buying or selling a business jet is not their top priority.” Fazal Karim says others offer similar services, but they are local or national players. “There isn’t one global player in brokerage and consulting,” he said. “One of my objectives is to acquire or buy into a company with good technical people and name recognition and make it global, with representative offices around the world. “We are already negotiating a shareholding structure for a joint venture,” he added, “and we hope to make an announcement soon. “This industry is going into a transformation. There are a lot of briefcase brokers, but now we need professionals.” —John Morris Three-dimensional synthetic vision arguably is the most important safety breakthrough since Honeywell’s two-dimensional Enhanced GPWS made its debut more than a decade ago. Now Honeywell (Booth 322) says it’s the first to receive an FAA DO-200A Letter of Acceptance to vet its verification and validation processes for its terrain and obstacle databases. The approval allows Honeywell to distribute revisions of the database without having to seek further FAA approvals. Record Order Backlog for Embraer Embraer’s firm order backlog for the commercial, executive and defense markets increased by $1.5 billion during the first quarter of this year, totaling a record $20.3 billion. The Brazilian airframer delivered 45 aircraft, of which seven were Legacy 600s for the corporate market. Embraer expects to deliver between 195 and 200 E-jets this year, plus ten or as many as 15 Phenom 100 jets. A Legacy 600 is seen here on the EBACE 2008 line. Embraer is at Booth 7441. DeCrane’s PPI for Falcon 2000 Cabinetry Wichita, Kansas-based Precision Pattern Interiors (PPI), a division of DeCrane Aerospace, has been chosen by Dassault Falcon Jet to build completed cabinetry for the Falcon 2000 family. Notes PPI, “Dassault has typically manufactured their cabinetry in-house, but the high demand for their aircraft created an opportunity for us to help with production.” PPI was due to begin delivering ready-to-install wood veneer cabinets to Dassault this spring. Other DeCrane units already provide seating, veneer and IFE/CMS systems for Dassault business jets. Booth 375. Expanding Aero Toy Store With a combined floor expansion of 4,180 sq m (45,000 sq ft), Aero Toy Store’s new hangar and completion center adds significantly to the company’s FBO operation at Trudeau Airport, Dorval, Quebec. The investment of $8 million CDN brings the total area of its Montreal operation, including ramp, to 18,500 sq m (200,000 sq ft). AgustaWestland Opens Regional HQ in Turkey AgustaWestland has opened a new regional business headquarters in Ankara, Turkey. The opening ceremony was attended by SSM Undersecretary Murad Bayar, AgustaWestland CEO Giuseppe Orsi, Italian Ambassador Carlo Marsili and British Ambassador Nick Baird. Through the new HQ AgustaWestland will manage the Tactical Reconnaissance and Attack Helicopter (ATAK) program, whose value to the company, based on the requirement for 50 T129 combat helicopters, is in excess of one billion euros. Orsi commented, “AgustaWestland has progressively increased its presence and share on the Turkish helicopter market in recent years and this latest step will enable us to even better support our expanding and already relevant presence in Turkey, where we see significant future business opportunities.” 500 Up for Mustang Orders Cessna Aircraft has passed the 500-order milestone for its Citation Mustang VLJ. The company delivered the first customer Mustang a year ago and delivered a total of 45 in 2007. It expects to hand over 100 Mustangs this year and is targeting a production rate of 150 per year by the end of 2009. Cessna has certified the aircraft in 47 countries. The 60 Mustangs currently in service have accumulated 10,500 flight hours. 22 May 21, 2008 www.aviationweek.com/shownews http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
