EBACE Show News - May 21, 2008 - (Page 59) EBACE 2008 Power to the People in Business Aircraft New families of aviation auxiliary power units (APU) do not come along too often, but the time is ripe to look afresh at this often forgotten aircraft component. e-APU is on display at Microturbo (Booth 123), designed to offer “electrical power for new-generation business jets.” Modern business aircraft demand electrical power by the bucketful, prompting Microturbo to pitch e-APU output between 15 and 90 kWe (up to 150 shp), according to version. Key attributes include its simplified architecture with low noise and emissions, centrifugal compressor, two-stage axial turbines with attached blades and a high-pressure cycle based on proven technologies, Microturbo says. Operable up to FL 510 and with a FL 410 start-up capability, the e-APU has a ground signature of less than 70 dB. A demonstrator will be run for the first time in the final quarter of this year, and certification is expected in 2011.
