EBACE Show News - May 22, 2008 - (Page 11) EBACE 2008 Gateway to the States Is Opened by ExcelAire AMAC’s second Basel hangar will be big enough for a 747 or two A320s. AMAC Switzerland Debuts With its operational launch as a provider of maintenance, refurbishment and completion services for corporate and private aircraft due in September, AMAC Aerospace Switzerland AG is introducing itself to potential customers this week. AMAC was founded in autumn 2007 by a group of aviation specialists. CEO Heinz Kohli previously was with Jet Aviation. Company base is EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, where it laid the foundation stone on May 6 and is to receive its first aircraft in four months’ time. In fact, the first aircraft, an Airbus 320 belonging to a client from the Middle East, already is at the airport. AMAC (Booth 651) has a 35-year concession on 11 acres, and will be investing nearly $50 million in two hangars, as well as workshops and offices that can accommodate around 300 employees. In the first phase of construction, AMAC is building a 45,200 sq ft double hangar for Gulfstream, Boeing and Airbus aircraft maintenance. Phase Two will see the erection of a widebody hangar with a floor space of around 88,300 sq ft— big enough for a Boeing 747 or two Airbus A320s. From 2009, services also will be offered for aircraft made by Dassault, Bombardier and others. In the last few days, AMAC signed its first aircraft management contract for a Gulfstream IV, on which work already has started. —Paul Jackson ExcelAire (Booth 723) announced at the show that it has opened a new private jet gateway to the U.S., providing international travelers with a full range of services, including on-site customs clearance, fuel, maintenance and full concierge services for passengers and crews. There is also helicopter service to the New York City metropolitan area, operated with Bell and Sikorsky types by HeliFlite. “For travelers from Europe, the Middle East and beyond, our private jet terminal at Islip (ISP) is the smart alternative to the other airports in this area that are congested and expensive,” said ExcelAire evp David Rimmer. “And at Islip, taxi and ATC delays are almost unheard of, making for hassle-free and time-efficient travel. Jets can be at our ramp in five minutes from their wheels touching down, and departures are similarly efficient.” Rimmer added, “At our FBO, we offer the least expensive fuel in the tri-state area, and there are no ramp fees—making it a smart and cost-effective gateway to the U.S.” ExcelAire is based at MacArthur Airport, Long Island, where it specializes in worldwide private jet charters, aircraft management, maintenance and sales. The company operates a diverse fleet, which includes a Gulfstream GV, a G450, five GIIIs, three Embraer Legacy 600s, a Learjet 55 and a Eurocopter Dauphin. —Paul Jackson http://www.vistajet.com http://www.vistajet.com
