Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways stole the headlines with orders for 55 Airbus and 45 Boeing aircraft, with a combined list value of $21 billion. Etihad’s Airbus order comprised 20 A320s, 25 A350s and 10 A380s, with options for five A320s, ten A350s and five A380s, plus purchase rights for another 15 A320s, 15 A350s and five A380s. Deliveries are set to start in 2011. Boeing received orders for 35 787s and 10 777-300ERs. Start-up low-cost carrier FlyDubai ordered 54 Boeing 737-800s worth $3.74 billion, which will allow the airline to start flying in mid-2009.
