Some production rights were even given to allies of the USSR; in that way China came to build Ukrainian Antonov An-24 “Cokes” under the designation Y-7. And Y-7 begat MA60, and MA60 begat MA600—the prototype of which has just been rolled out at Xian and will, with the Western MA700 derivative, says China, claim 40% of the world twin turboprop regional airliner market in the near future. How does today’s Antonov company feel about not getting a single hryvnia in royalties? Dmytro Kiva, Antonov ASTC general designer, is diplomatic: “It is the business of our Chinese partners and friends; we co-operate with China in many directions, both transport and passenger aircraft. As for MA600, it is fully their aircraft.” But is he pleased to know that the An-24 lives on? “Of course. We are very happy about this.” —Paul Jackson Southwest Airlines has signed a 10-year, $2 billion maintenance, repair and overhaul agreement with GE Aviation, covering all of the U.S. carrier’s current and future CFM56-7B engines. Southwest operates more than 660 -7B engines on its Next Generation Boeing 737s and has an additional 200 engines of the type on order. GE Aviation describes the contract as an OnPoint Solution: “A flexible, long-term commitment designed to meet a customer’s unique engine service needs.” Doncasters Expands Aerospace Fasteners Work Precision aerospace component specialist Doncasters Group is expanding its Fasteners Division with the help of three newly acquired U.S.-based subsidiaries. AirAsia X to Install TopSeries in 10 More A330s Thales will install TopSeries inflight entertainment equipment on 10 additional Airbus A330 aircraft being acquired by AirAsia X, the Malaysian-based long-haul, low-cost airline. The system has auto and video on demand, with 8.9 inch touch-screen displays in every seat. Entertainment provided includes games, an interactive moving map and shopping. AirAsia X has also ordered other Thales avionics equipment and satcom technology. Freudenberg Simrit Offers New Bleed Air Seals Tired of replacing those troublesome perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) seals in your jetliner’s bleed air system? Freudenbern Simrit (Hall 4, Stand CC2) now offers Simriz 498 seals that should “easily be able to last” 10,000 hours, the TBO of most bleed air systems. Simriz 498 is claimed to offer high resistance to chemical reaction, no corrosive effect on stainless steel, Inconel or titanium components and ability to withstand prolonged temperatures in excess of 300°C.
