Boeing Signs 50 More Orders Boeing yesterday added another 50 aircraft orders to its books thanks to major deals with Malaysia Airlines and Aviation Capital Group (ACG). Malaysia Airlines ordered 35 737-800s in a deal worth $2.6 billion at list prices, and secured purchase rights for another 20. The carrier wants to use them to replace its fleet of 37 737-400s. Deliveries are slated to begin in the second half of 2010. ACG signed a deal for 15 737-700s, valued at $934 million. The carrier has ordered 91 737s, and seven will have been delivered by the end of this year. Deliveries of the latest order are scheduled to begin in 2013. ACG CEO Stephen Hannahs said he is also looking to order another 10-15 787s, beyond the five already ordered. Meanwhile, lessor DAE Capital bought 18 Boeing wide-body freighters from Emirates in a sale and leaseback agreement, after hinting a day earlier that it was looking to boost its portfolio through more acquisitions. The aircraft are all yet to be built—10 are Boeing 747-8Fs and the remaining eight are Boeing 777Fs. On Tuesday, Nigeria’s Arik Air announced an order for seven additional 737-800s, lifting its order total to 17. The airline also confirmed its intention to order four 747-8s. Air China reportedly intends to purchase 15 777s and 30 737s, although no firm order has yet been made. Asiana Orders 30 A350 XWB Jets Asiana Airlines yesterday signed a deal with Airbus for 30 A350s, with a total list value of $7.2 billion. The carrier said it will take a combination of all three A350 variants, with deliveries expected to begin in 2016. It also placed 10 options. “The A350 will play a key role in the Asiana fleet of the future,” said CEO Park Chan-Bup. They will be used on both regional and long-haul routes. AerCap Launches A320/321 Conversions Leasing company AerCap yesterday became the launch customer for a new Airbus freighter aircraft, after signing a contract to convert 30 of its Airbus A320/A321 passenger aircraft. The conversion deal was signed with Airbus Freighter Conversion GmbH. The aircraft will be known as A320/A321P2Fs. The first of the A320P2Fs is expected to be ready in 2011, and AFC will ramp up to 30 conversions a year after that. About 400 will be converted between 2012 and 2026. The conversions will be done by Irkut Corporation. A platform for the P2F conversion is being prepared in Zhukovskij, a Russian aerospace center. —Adrian Schofield Show News at Farnborough On site Newsroom: Chalet A20 Tel: +44 (0)1252 417798 www.aviationweek.com/shownews July 17, 2008 3 http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
