B/CA Show News - NBAA 2007 Day 1 - (Page 20) d1p20 final 9/24/07 12:10 PM Page 1 N BA A 2007 Huge NetJets Order Tally Includes No Bombardiers, Nor Likely Will It, Ever There was a time when NetJets was interested in buying Bombardier aircraft, says NetJets chief Richard Santulli, but Bombardier, which has its own fractional aircraft program (dubbed Flexjet), didn’t want to sell them. NetJets, meanwhile, has gone on to buy many hundreds of jets from Cessna, Dassault Falcon and Gulfstream: “I would do nothing in any way to interfere with our relationships with those companies,” Santulli told Show News on the eve of NBAA 2007. “We don’t compete with them, so, no, we won’t be buying any Bombardier airplanes.” FirstFlight Adds Hawker 700 Latest addition to FirstFlight’s growing fleet is a Hawker 700 based at Wilkes Barre/Scranton International (AVP). The aircraft is configured for up to eight passengers and has been outfitted with a new interior featuring two 15-inch monitors with Airshow and DVD/CD. FirstFlight currently operates aircraft ranging from Learjets to G550s under full management and available for charter. Company president John Dow commented, “The Hawker 700 will work well for us in the Northeast and should be a popular charter aircraft. We are pleased with the range of aircraft we now have available for our customers and will continue to add quality aircraft to our fleet.” S-TEC DFCS for PC-21 Pilatus Aircraft has selected the S-TEC IntelliFlight 1950 Digital Flight Control System (DFCS) for its PC-21 turboprop military trainer. “The PC-21 represents a whole new way of approaching basic through advanced and fighter lead-in flight training for military aviators,” said S-TEC president Mel Hilderbrand. “To meet Pilatus’ goals of jet-like performance, capabilities and handling for the PC-21, the flight control system has to be able to effectively and reliably operate within an extremely wide performance envelope. The digital format of the IntelliFlight 1950 has proven that it’s up to this, and will provide an extremely high dispatch rate at the lowest possible lifecycle cost.” S-TEC is at Booth 739. We have extensive design, certification, and logistical planning experience, and we are the only thermal/acoustic supplier that has dedicated material development and acoustic and vibration laboratories, all of which will provide unmatched support to Embraer.” Dassault Falcon Jet Goes EVAS EVASWorldwide (Booth 6051) reports an agreement whereby Dassault Falcon Jet will equip all its demonstrators with the company’s Emergency Vision Assurance System. EVAS is a simple but proven cockpit smoke displacement system that assures flight crews of a secure defense against heavy, continuous smoke emergencies that might otherwise result in disaster. Smoke in the cockpit is ranked third highest on the list of causes of fatalities. The system provides an inflatable flexible bag that creates a path for clear vision between the crew’s eyeballs and the instrument panel. 494 AIRPLANES VALUED AT $9,398.65 Per-type totals in millions of dollars based on B&CA 2007 Purchase Planning Handbook prices *from 2006 PPH. **entirely new aircraft types. Gore Delivers Refurbished BBJ San Antonio, Texas-based Gore Design Completions (GDC) recently delivered a Boeing BBJ that had undergone interior refurbishment. The airplane’s new owner wanted virtually all of the interior materials replaced and restyled to reflect his taste. In addition to the interior refurbishment, Gore also performed A and B1/B2 checks, incorporated 25 Boeing service bulletins and cleared an AD. GDC currently has five projects in hand—three BBJs, an Airbus A320 and a head-of-state Boeing 767-300ER. Gore is at Booth 4050 here. CAE Expands Operations in India The Hawker 4000 from Hawker Beechcraft, a new, $19.95 million jet. NetJets has ordered 81 of them. CAE (Booth 5813) has signed an agreement to acquire Indian simulator company Macmet Technologies Ltd. for Cdn$5 million. Bangalore-based Macmet designs simulators for air, land and naval forces. "The acquisition of Macmet will provide greater access to India's growing market, and provide CAE additional capabilities to offer cost-effective entry-level training devices," said Marc Parent, CAE's group president, simulation products and military training & services. 20 September 25, 2007 www.aviationweek.com/shownews http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
