N BA A 2007 New Cockpit Milestones as Garmin Wins Contracts for Piper Jet and TBM850 Robert Kromer, Piper’s vp sales and marketing, and Nicolas Chabbert, EADS SOCATA’s vp sales and marketing, each announced that their firms have chosen Garmin G1000 integrated avionics systems for their top-of-the-line aircraft models. Piper Jet’s avionics suite will feature left and right landscape configuration PFDs flanking a portrait configuration MFD, a layout not seen before in a production business aircraft. The upper left corner of TBM 850 each PFD will have a dedicated standby attitude indicator tile, according to the artist’s rendering rePiper Jet vealed by Kromer. EADS SOCATA’s decision to embrace the Garmin G1000 package comes as a surprise to many industry observers who expected the firm to certify a Honeywell APEX avionics kit in the aircraft after several years of development work and a substantial non-recurring engineering investment in the program. Chabbert, however, declined to predict when the G1000 package would be certified for TBM850, and he also didn’t talk about specific weight or price changes. The G1000 package for the TBM850 is a virtual clone of the system installed in the Citation Mustang. Both aircraft feature left and right portrait configuration GDU 1040A PFDs, plus a 15-in GDU 1500 MFD, dual GMA 1347c digital audio control panels and a stand-alone GCU 475 FMS control display panel in the console. Other standard equipment includes dual GTX 33 Mode S transponders, L3 WX500 StormScope, Garmin GWX68 weather radar, TAS and TAWS-B, plus Honeywell KRA 405B radio altimeter and KN63 DME. XM radio weather and Mode S diversity transponders will be optional. Both the Piper Jet and TBM850 G1000 packages include three-axis G700 digital autopilots, dual Gamma 3 WAAS receivers, dual RVSM-capable DADCs and solid-state AHRS, plus Garmin Chartview, Jeppesen flight charts and Garmin SafeTaxi diagrams with aircraft position depiction. —Fred George 16 Blackhawk XP at Hawker Beechcraft Services Hawker Beechcraft Services has joined the network of authorized dealers for Waco, Texas-based Blackhawk Modification’s King Air XP upgrades, which are certified for the King Air 90 and 200 series. All 10 of Hawker Beechcraft Service’s global network of factory-owned service centers are authorized to perform the upgrades. Randy Znamenak, vp, Hawker Beechcraft services sales and marketing, noted, “We are making quick use of Blackhawk as a customer service tool. When our customers leave one of our facilities with a more powerful aircraft than when they arrived, everybody wins.” Blackhawk has now completed over 90 XP upgrades on the King Air fleet. Dassault Expands Wilmington Service Center Dassault Aircraft Services is taking over a 22,000-sq ft hangar at New Castle Airport to expand its Wilmington, Del., completion center. In addition, the company plans to hire over 100 new employees. Dassault Aircraft Services president Jack Young says company facilities are busy worldwide with the unprecedented demand for Falcon aircraft, and the Wilmington facility is being expanded to handle completion overflow. The completions will include 12 Falcon 2000 aircraft for NetJets Inc. By mid 2008, the facility will have 400 employees, up from 165 when Dassault purchased the facility in 2001. Dassault Falcon Jet is at Booth 1357. PMA OK for Brake Replacement on Falcon 20 Rapco Fleet Support Inc. (RFS) of Hartland, Wis., has received a Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) from the FAA for replacement brake components for ABSC (Goodyear) brakes on the Dassault Falcon 20. The parts can be intermixed with original ABSC brake parts. The RFS parts completed hundreds of cycles on a brake dynamometer and wet water runway braking tests and maximum rejected take-off tests. Rapco is at Booth 2741. A-PRO Wins Avanti Overhaul Deal Deerfield Beach, Fla.-based Aero Precision Repair and Overhaul Co. (A-PRO) has won approval to overhaul and repair Piaggio Avanti landing gears and related accessories. A-PRO got the nod from both airframer Piaggio and landing gear manufacturer Messier Dowty. “This high-end turboprop is a good stablemate to our current corporate programs that have yielded extensive experience with landing gears of this size,” noted A-PRO president Alex Tearle. “The proximity of Piaggio’s U.S. corporate HQ in West Palm Beach also enhances the day-to-day working relationship.” Dock Your iPod on a Falcon Passengers on the Dassault Falcon 7X, 900 and 2000 will be able to use their iPods and iPhones to access music and video libraries through cabin audio visual systems with new docking stations from Rockwell Collins. Dassault Falcon is the launch customer for the new products, which will be in service by the end of 2008. The new iPod solo station and a quad station (for multiple units) allow passengers to charge their iPod devices as well. Pentastar Team Snags FAA Awards The FAA has awarded over 80 members of Pentastar Aviation’s maintenance and avionics team its Aviation Maintenance Technician Award. The FAA recognizes AMTs and their employer by issuing awards based on recurrent training completed in one calendar year. “Pentastar Aviation prides itself on assembling an award-winning team of maintenance and avionics specialists to service a wide range of aircraft,” said Pentastar's owner, Edsel B.
