N BA A 2007 “Absolutely Ourageous” Market Seems Poised to Last, Says Nadol of JP Morgan JP Morgan analyst Joseph Nadol is forecasting that business aircraft deliveries will peak and begin to see a small decline after 2010. But that projection, he stresses, is based on his firm’s long-term assumptions about the U.S. economy. So far, there’s no sign that record orders for jets are weakening. “The market has been absolutely outrageous,” Nadol told an audience at a Chase Business Aircraft Finance breakfast in Atlanta on Tuesday. “It makes people like me nervous because it’s been so darn good for quite a long period of time.” After posting growth of 25% in 2005 and 18% in 2006, Nadol is projecting that growth in business jet deliveries will slow to 15% this year and 12% in 2008. But despite fears of a U.S. economic slowdown, the market will continue to expand for at least two more years, he believes. That upbeat assessment mirrors an industry forecast released by Honeywell this week that sees business aircraft deliveries continuing to break new records through 2009. China, on pace to become the world’s thirdlargest economy, represents “a particularly large opportunity” for the industry and ultimately could dampen the next downturn, Nadol believes. Today, he says, 15% of Boeing and Airbus jets end up in China. For business aircraft, the percentage is virtually zero. With the Chinese military controlling—and restricting—access to domestic air space, the emergence of the new market depends largely on how quickly the government moves forward with liberalization. “This is really not an economic issue, it’s an air space issue,” Nadol says. He predicts liberalization will come in stages, with the government making it easier to register business jets and then easing air space restrictions corridor by corridor. Major changes could be in place by 2010, he says. Notably absent from Nadol’s speech was any mention of Asia’s other new economic tiger, India. Nadol said afterward that India hasn’t generated a lot of excitement in the business jet market so far because its airport infrastructure is woefully inadequate. For growth prospects outside the U.S., he’s much more upbeat about —Joe Anselmo China, Russia, Japan and Brazil. 18 Yingling Launches Joint Ownership Program Yingling Aviation has introduced a Joint Ownership Program that offers partnerships on refurbished and updated Cessna twin turbine aircraft. “By creating joint ownership arrangements for the purchase of Cessna turboprops, we are able to offer buyers the benefits of aircraft ownership without any of the drawbacks that go with buying a fractional share,” noted Lynn Nichols, Yingling’s president. “Since they are recognized as owners by the FAA, and their names appear on the aircraft registration, the partners share jointly in the tax advantages and spread the operating costs equally.” Welcomes Owners of Legacy Cessna Craft Citing recent reports that some aircraft maintenance and repair facilities were turning away aircraft older than 18 years of age because of insurance and liability concerns, Yingling Aviation, longtime Cessna affiliate at Wichita’s Mid-Continent Airport, says it welcomes customers who are flying older models. “We have established maintenance procedures, tooling and expertise working on Cessna single and twin-engine aircraft, and are located across from the factory, so if we run into an anomaly, Cessna’s product support is minutes away,” noted Yingling president Lynn Nichols. “We work with the manufacturer directly to support developing applicable service bulletins and repair schemes for Cessna aircraft young and old.” A 421B Golden Eagle is shown here. Empty-Leg Travel for the Footloose CharterMatrix.com, an Internet site dedicated to the purchase and sale of charter flights, has updated its website with focus on empty-leg travel. Other updates include a map search function, request board, and interaction with web-based flight planning software. The map search function allows users to select a region of the country and view all empty-leg charter flights. A request board allows users to post flight bids and request specific empty-leg flight destinations, allowing charter operators to review possible flights without having to log or post a flight first. Third BBJ Completion for Gore Gore Design Completions (Booth 4050) has won a contract to outfit its third “green” Boeing BBJ, and its second for the client. The airplane will have a main lounge and buffet/bar for 16 passengers, master stateroom with full-size shower, guest bedroom, crew rest area and state-of-the-art entertainment with 42-in LCD monitors, and CD/DVD players with surround sound. The earth-toned interior will have natural and stained bird’s eye veneers and satin almond gold metal trim. American Eurocopter Aviation Safety Award American Eurocopter has selected PHI Air Medical as the winner of the first annual Vision Zero Aviation Safety Award for its groundbreaking efforts in developing comprehensive Enhanced Operational Control for its air medical operations. The core of the EOC system is an experienced EMS pilot on duty 24/7 at PHI’s communication center in Phoenix, Ariz. Working in conjunction with the communications specialists who coordinate patient transport for their 67 air medical aircraft, the EOC pilot is available at any time to the EMS pilots in the field. New ExcelAire Base on Long Island ExcelAire (Booth 405) is expanding services around New York by opening a new facility in Long Island, N.Y. The 110,000 sq ft facility at MacArthur Airport, which formerly belonged to Garrett Aviation, “is conveniently located between New York City and the Hamptons,” Excel president Bob Sherry said. The company’s subsidiary, Eastway Aircraft, will provide maintenance services to ExcelAire’s fleet and will be open to the general aviation public as well.
