B/CA Show News - NBAA 2007 Day 2 - (Page 40) N B A A 2 0 07 ON THE RECORD— Jeff Roberts, Group President for Innovation and Civil Training and Services, CAE CAE Simuflite to Cover Bizjet Field CAE Simuflite said here yesterday that it’s boosting training programs “to address 90% of all business aviation aircraft and cover all major OEMs.” “Effectively we’ll address 100% of the active fleet,” CAE group president for innovation and civil training and services Jeff Roberts told Show News. CAE will do so, he says, by installing new simulators or upgrading existing ones at various training centers around the world—or by building entirely new facilities if that’s what customers want. The company already has 25 centers, and two thirds of them, Roberts points out, are outside North America. CAE Simuflite is thus already poised to take advantage of the increasing globalization of the business aviation marketplace. CAE has bases as far afield as Dubai in the Middle East, Zhuhai in China, Gondia and Igrua in India. In Europe, CAE has training centers in Amsterdam, Rome, Madrid and Moscow, all of which could host business jet sims. CAE also trains in Morristown, N.J. The curriculum expansion will address products from the “big six business aviation OEMs,” Roberts says, naming Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault Falcon, Embraer, Gulfstream and Hawker Beechcraft. New programs may be expected to enter service within the next two years. are the customers, the regula“We are offering more choices tory agencies and the insurance to our customers and bringing companies. Jeff Roberts. Burgess Hill started with just four “No,” Roberts says. That’s just one metric to bays, went to eight and is now going to 12. “There define leadership, but another could be customer is additional space here and it will grow bigger than we’ve already announced.” Does that mean satisfaction, it could be best in class service, or best distributive network of training centers. Our more building is required? “Yes,” Roberts says. “Business at Burgess Hill is split roughly 50/50 goal is to be very responsive to the market, to probetween business and commercial aviation right vide a value proposition that customers find now, but going forward, I’m not sure if it will stay compelling, and to win a proportionate share of like that. It might become more business aviation- that business.” CAE has been in the market for 60 years. “What orientated, and right now we are assessing our future plans for additional business aviation train- is true and indisputable is that we are in every seging centers in Europe. We’re deep in that ment; we’re in general aviation, business aviation, assessment and analysis and I don’t think we’ll get regional, commercial and military aviation. A month earlier, CAE signed a global joint training venture with Embraer for pilots and ground crew on the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 VLJs. “We’re already long and broad on creation and Who says humor is dead at the top? Simfinity “offers the same truefidelity Level D simulation technology used in full-flight simulators end-to-end along the entire training continuum,” the company says, “from CAE courseware and tools like procedure trainers and brief/debrief flight simulator stations used in instructor-led sessions to those designed for on-line computer-based training.” The Simfinity “makes the learning experience real and absolutely seamless,” CAE says, “improving training efficiency and effectiveness while reducing risk and cost.” In August, CAE finalized its acquisition of Flightscape, an in-flight data analysis and flight sciences company.
