High Miles Air Taxi Outfit The head of the Air Taxi Association (Booth 1312C), Joe Leader, said that at the organization’s recently concluded second board meeting, m e m b e r c o m p a n y, S AT S a i r, reported hitting 5 million passenger miles. The Greenville, S.C. air taxi firm, which covers most of the southeastern United States, operates single-engine Cirrus SR-22As equipped with ballistic parachutes to recover the airplane in emergencies. ATXA’s president also announced a partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia to provide easy web access for customers. Soon, travelers seeking information about air taxi and charter flights will be able to link to a reservations page that lists the nearest origin and destination GA airports, the operators who will fly the trip, and the estimated cost. Passenger information will be captured and shared through the use of Connect IT software, which ensures open access as well as a central source for collected data accessible to all ATXA member companies. There’s lots of talk about aircraft interiors at NBAA 2007, but ten-year old Scheme Designers is carving out a niche in custom exteriors. The company focuses exclusively on the design and specifications of paint schemes for aircraft, with capabilities ranging from kit planes to airliners, including helicopters—and, increasingly, business jets. Scheme says it provides paint schemes for more than half of all general aviation manufacturers, as well as “numerous airlines,” and has designed the paint schemes on the past six AOPA Sweepstakes aircraft. The company is moving toward larger aircraft as OEMs like Gulfstream move away from standard exteriors, according to founder and CEO Craig Barnett. Can a better paint job help save fuel? Yes and no. A poorly painted airplane will waste fuel, Barnett says. But paint alone won’t make up for less than optimal aerodynamics, nor effectively emulate the principals of laminar flow. With all the talk of carbon credits and green aviation, can one “paint oneself green,” as it were? “I can paint it green,” BarScheme CEO Barnett, Booth 2749. nett says, “but it won’t help.” • ACARS/Datalink Over Iridium • Broadband Ready • VOIP & VO2W • Multichannel Global Voice & Data Service • PABX Features • Fax & Secure Voice • Interoperates with other communications and aircraft systems • Non-proprietary, open architecture • Never out of date Communicate on a higher level. 1-757-947-1030 www.icg.aero http://www.icg.aero http://www.icg.aero
