Last May, at EBACE in Geneva, Bombardier’s Learjet division unveiled a new logo comprising four gently curved horizontal stripes forming the shape of “the famed Learjet wingtlets.” At the same time, the business jet family adopted the new marketing slogan, “Life is a Race” to underscore its efforts in maximizing customers’ productivity in a hectic world. Along with this came a dedicated, interactive website, www.livetherace.tv, which includes four selectable information download boxes: one each for the 40XR, 45XR and 60XR and one intriguingly blank—but, perhaps, not Bombardier president Pierre Gabriel Côté (right) welcomes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton as Learjet ambassador. destined to remain so at the end of this convention. Rosen Aviation Brings RosenView VX Entertainment to Piaggio and Cessna Rosen Aviation has landed two contracts to supply Piaggio’s P.180 Avanti II and Cessna’s Citation XLS+ with its RosenView VX in-flight entertainment systems. The RosenView VX will be the “preferred choice” option for inflight entertainment systems. Piaggio is also installing RosenView’s 7-in display on a side-wall mount. Rosen is Booth 1864. The company will be supplying systems that feature a region-free DVD player (plays DVDs from any country). RosenView VX also comes with a moving map display and four input selections for MP3 players or portable video players. The system can also support up to five displays at one time. “RosenView LX will be stand a r d o n X L S a i r c r a f t , ” P h i l Cowles, Rosen Aviation’s marketing manager said. The LX version Cessna offers a few more features than the VX. It not only has world mapping satellite imagery of the terrain below, and street-level detail of the U.S. and Europe; but it also gives the passengers in back a briefing on the different stages of the flight. Cessna’s aircraft will also be getting a bulkhead-mounted 10.4in display. For those interested in buying the systems for their own aircrafts, they cost $10,000 for the VX and $12,500 for the LX. Rosen also offers an LXM model that shares the same features as the LX model, but also has graphical weather overlay on the map. The list price for LXM is $14,500. Rosen will begin delivery by first quarter next year. “We are working on a package for upgrades, but right now customers either have to send in the box or buy a new one,” —Evan Sweetman Cowles said. A few weeks later, this time at the Paris Air Show, the “race” theme took on additional meaning when Pierre Gabriel Côté, president, Bombardier Business Aircraft, introduced Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One driver and rising star, Lewis Hamilton, as its new Learjet brand ambassador. As if his recent ground level successes in the F1 racing championship were not enough, Hamilton said, “Another of my dreams has been fulfilled as I now fly by Learjet”. “His achievements have impressed the sporting world and he has tremendous potential to become a legend, just like the Learjet brand,” commented Côté. And it is that legend that Learjet is gearing up to celebrate next year, when the brandname achieves its 45th anniversary. Bill Lear’s Model 23 prototype conducted its maiden flight in Wichita on October 7, 1963 and by great good fortune, October 7, 2008 is the middle day of next year’s Convention in Orlando—and this week starts the countdown. More than 2,500 of the family have been built already—including out-of-production Models 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 31, 35, 36 and 55—and production is currently proceeding at a rate of some 70 per year, divided evenly between 40/45 and 60 series airplanes. Bombardier is at Booth 6418. —Paul Jackson ASI Kidnap & Ransom Help ASI Group has formed ASI Global, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary that provides a portfolio of crisis management, prevention and preincident services to private clients and families, financial institutions and major corporations worldwide. “Kidnapping incidents remain an alarmingly high statistic in many countries around the world,” said Tim Maystrik, CEO of ASI Global. “Our proactive approach to safety and security, together with our ability to employ some of the world’s most highly qualified crisis-management practitioners, gives our clients immediate access to the very best minds in the business and an unparalleled network of resources.” ASI is at Booth 1705 here.
