B/CA Show News - NBAA 2007 - September 27, 2007 - (Page 34) N B A A 2 0 07 Standard Aero Buys 500 PT6 Engines Standard Aero will buy 500 PT6 engines from Pratt & Whitney Canada in a five-year deal worth some $150 million, the two companies announced here yesterday. The PT6-135A, 42 and 52 engines will replace the original powerplants in various aircraft under Standard Aero’s upgrade programs that enhance speed, cruise and rate of climb. The first engine will be delivered to Standard Aero in Winnipeg in the next few weeks. The engines will form the basis of upgrade programs for the Piper Cheyenne I, IA, II, IIXL and the Beechcraft King Air F90, and planned future upgrades will include the King Air 200/B200 and Cessna Caravan. The upgrades will, for example, exchange the Piper Cheyenne’s engines from the PT6A-11 to the PT6-135A. Standard Aero estimates there are more than 5,000 aircraft operating in the U.S. that could be upgraded. In other news, Standard Aero announced a $5.5 million expansion of its Maryville, Tenn., aircraft maintenance facility in order to provide maintenance on several powerplants including the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610/615 engines. The expansion will add 10,000 sq ft to the existing 120,000 sq ft facility. Earlier this year Standard Aero became a Pratt & Whitney Canada designated overhaul facility for the PW610/615. Standard Aero also announced the acquisition for $65 million of the Cincinnati-based TSS Aviation turbine engine component repair facility as parent company Dubai Aerospace Enterprise pursues its strategy of building an MRO empire. Four Citations to India, One Citation Mustang To North Dakota Cessna says it has sold four Citations to customers in India and one Citation Mustang to the University of North Dakota. Corporations in India are turning to business aviation to improve their efficiency in a nation where the airlines are growing rapidly but a great deal of improvement is needed in airport infrastructure. The CJ2+, XLS+ and Sovereign have proved popular in India. Taneja Aerospace and Aviation is ordering two CJ2+ aircraft and one XLS+ while Indian Seamless Metal Tubes is buying one XLS+. Meanwhile, UND will have the first Mustang to be operated by a college flight school. The entry-level jet will join 120 other aircraft operated by the university. It will be used for executive travel and flight training for undergraduate and contract students. Cessna also says it has sold 30 Mustangs to an undisclosed air-taxi operator in Europe—the largest Mustang order to date. But this customer won’t be announced until November. 34 September 27, 2007 www.aviationweek.com/shownews http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
