B/CA Show News - NBAA 2007 - September 27, 2007 - (Page 4) N BA A 2007 The Lear That’s Not Here, But Could be Near (or So We Hear) As the convention drew to a close, Bombardier’s Learjet website (www.livetherace.tv) was continuing to carry a blank selection tab implying the imminent announcement of a fourth variant of the classic series of business jet, complementing the Learjet 40XR, 45XR and 60XR business jets. Perhaps that is just indicative of an excess of forward thinking, rather than poor website design. The company has conceded that the next product announcement will be a Learjet, and it seems that any visitors accepting an invitation to sit in the small, half-section of Lear fuselage near to the real things in the static display might just be helping— unwittingly—to design it. Industry tittle-tattle would have it that a “Fat 45” will be launched soon. It’s dangerous to put two and two together, but those two seats together might be a clue to a new cabin size. —Paul Jackson Aero Toy Store’s Trio Is Actually a Quartet Bombardier has announced three firm orders from Ft. Lauderdale’s Aero Toy Store—two Learjet 60XRs and a Global XRS. A little bird, in a very well-placed tree, tells Show News that the Global XRS order is actually for two aircraft, and the second will be added very soon. The Toy Store’s Globals will be fitted with Bombardier’s Global Vision flight deck, using the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Aero T Store is at the static display. oy P&WC Will Maintain DayJet PW610 Engines Pratt & Whitney Canada (Booth 5763) reported Wednesday that it signed a Fleet Management Program contract with DayJet to maintain its PW610F engines aboard DayJet’s Eclipse 500 fleet. The agreement covers hot-section inspections, overhauls, unscheduled removals and trend-condition monitoring. FMP coverage is pay-by-the-hour, which allows DayJet to control its cost of engine maintenance under the program’s guaranteed protection provisions. Lufthansa Technik Revs Up Moving Map AirTrack, the unique satellite moving-map system from Lufthansa Technik (Booth 1327) now works in North American airspace and contains political boundaries for nations and states. High resolution maps and charts offer new viewing modes, such as “fly-by,” in which the airplane first flies toward the observer, then passes beneath the observer and continues toward the destination. The “Mecca pointer” feature does just what it says, and Chinese and Arabic languages are now resident in the system, with others available on request. Passengers view a highly detailed depiction of the Earth’s surface, and the system records up to 40 hours of flight. Simply Heaven, in the Convention Hall Who better than an angel to publicize Heaven’s Landing? The 635-acre gated airpark in northeast Georgia, 100 miles from Atlanta, is on Booth 2646 advertising its attributes. In addition to those evident in the photograph are a 5,069X50-foot runway and over 200 estate-sized lots, each averaging 1.5 acres and featuring either long range views, wooded seclusion, direct taxiway access, or a combination of all three. —Paul Jackson Lindbergh Board Elects Blue and Williams Industry veteran and Spectrum Aeronautical chairman Linden S. Blue and Ballistic Recovery Systems CEO Larry E. Williams have been elected to the Lindbergh Foundation board of directors. Erik Lindbergh, former chairman of the Lindbergh Foundation and current director, is expected to leave the board of directors after this weekend’s board meeting so that he can pursue other charitable interests, Lindbergh Foundation directors told Show News. HTF7000 To Hit 250,000 Hours Soon Perhaps by the time you’re unpacking after your return home from Atlanta, Honeywell’s HTF7000 turbofan will hit the 250,000-hour milestone. T oday, the company says the figure stands at 245,000 and more than 152,000 start-stop cycles since entering service. High-time engines are reported to have accumulated more than 4,000 hours and overall dispatch reliability is 99.95%, the company claims. Honeywell has more than 290 of the engines in service, 16 of which have completed initial routine hot section inspections. T fleet-leader engines have been through comprehensive analytwo ical inspections. The HTF7000 system includes engine, nacelle and thrust reverser. Tennessee Taps White for Aero MBA Program The University of T ennessee College of Business Administration has named U.S. Air Force veteran Andy White as director of the aerospace MBA program. White also will be a faculty member supporting executive education as part of a five-year, $25 million contract awarded to the university in 2006. UT runs a 12-month executive MBA program tailored specifically for professionals in the aerospace and defense industries. White, who retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, was lead public affairs planner for the air component at the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deployed to Iraq in 2004. 4 September 27, 2007 www.aviationweek.com/shownews http://www.livetherace.tv http://www.aviationweek.com/shownews
