PAWTUCKAWAY STATE PARK offers a variety of landscapes, with something to do and see for everyone. Three mountain ridges dominate the northwest area of the park. Trails through a forest of oaks and hemlocks lead to the summit of each of the peaks. Snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers can ramble over the 25 miles of trails which connect the remote corners of the 5,500-acre park. Warm weather will bring hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers to explore the backwoods of Pawtuckaway. Discover an extensive marsh where beavers, deer and great blue herons may be seen, or scale the ledges overlooking Round Pond. Don’t miss the geologically unique field where large boulders called glacial erratics were deposited near the end of the Ice Age. Hikers making the climb to the summit of South Mountain and its fire tower are treated to a panorama that stretches to the New Hampshire coast. >> Biking Pawtuckaway: Pawtuckaway’s 5,500 acres offer a variety of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking as well. Trails wind through an oak and hemlock forest on what used to be pastureland bounded by stone walls. State Parks 15
