Official VISIT FLORIDA Travel Guide 2008 - (Page 16) Daytona Beach Where’ my beach? s With a staggering 1,930 kilometres of coastline to choose from, you’re never far from a beguiling beach and sparkling blue sea in Florida. Even better, there’s a stretch of sand to suit every type of beachgoer. Several of the east coast beaches, including Daytona Beach, are known for their wide, sandy shores and surfer-friendly waves. An hour south of Daytona on Highway One and you’re on Cocoa Beach, in the shadow of the Kennedy Space Center. With its long wooden pier, seafood shacks and surf shops, Cocoa Beach is prime territory for those on an away day from the theme parks. If you’re lucky you might just find yourself witnessing a shuttle launch. For the beautiful people only one beach will do. Miami’s South Beach has been luring trendy young things in with its heady mix of cool clubs, golden sands and Art Deco hotels since the early 20th century. Beyond Miami, Florida’s enchanting necklace of southern islands, the Keys, are home to beaches galore including the Bahia Honda State Park which, with its darting fish and colourful coral, makes for ideal snorkelling territory.
