Two popular ones are the Clay County Golden Delicious Festival, celebrated in the town of Clay where the apple was first discovered, and the Preston County Buckwheat Festival in Kingwood. Both feature arts, crafts, music, food and plenty of entertainment for the whole family. Clay County Golden Delicious Festival . During what’s billed as the world’s largest extreme sports event, Bridge Day participants use the singlearch steel structure as a launch point for BASE jumping and rappelling. The festival also caters to those who prefer both feet on the ground with more than 200 food and entertainment vendors. Incredible views, fall color and insight into the area’s industrial history also make the New River Gorge area a popular autumn hiking spot.
