The state is perhaps best known for camping, hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hunting and ATV trails, and those activities are explained in more detail on the pages that follow. But West Virginia is also a great place to ride a horse along a mountain trail, enjoy a hot air balloon ride over rolling farmland or search the wilderness for solitude – or even hidden treasure. Geocaching stash in Canaan Valley g. SCAVENGER HUNT Want to combine the state’s great outdoors with the fun and excitement of a high-tech treasure hunt? Try geocaching. Players hide containers full of items throughout the world and note their coordinates online using the Global Positioning System. Others with handheld GPS devices then try to find the stashes. Once they do, they are to take something from the cache, leave something new in its place, and update the enclosed logbook.
