In addition, the state also boasts a wide array of rail trails for more leisurely riding. Canaan Valley/Davis Another mountain biking mecca, the Canaan Valley-Davis area, offers excellent beginner-intermediate trails at Canaan Valley Resort State Park. Just a few minutes from the resort, bikers can find great family rides with hundreds of miles of well-marked trails that meander through fields of wildflowers and cattails with several creek crossings and gentle climbs. The resort’s lodge is family-friendly and features a restaurant, pool, golf course and many activities for children. In the nearby Blackwater Canyon area of Davis, hardcore mountain biking awaits those who dare to take the challenge. The trails, which are a short ride from the Blackwater Bike Shop in the center of town, are technical, rooted and rocky and involve climbing and descending a lot of narrow, deeply rutted streams. T Snowshoe Mountain Biking a scenic trail past the Paw Paw Tunnel f. Some of the best riding in the state can be found at the almost-mile-high Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Off-road riders flock to the resort nestled in the Allegheny Mountains each summer, where they enjoy hundreds of miles of technical single-track and world-class downhills. Best of all, mountain bikers can avoid climbing altogether if they want – Snowshoe offers a shuttle that picks up riders at the bottom of the mountain every half hour and drives them back to the top. Snowshoe’s trails are known for challenging rock gardens and fun-to-try log crossings. Trails are well-marked and well-groomed and maps are easy to read.
